Russian Red

from $15.00
sold out

Russian Red is an extremely cold-hardy, early-mid season, rocambole garlic. It was first brought into the United States by Russian immigrants and has been grown successfully in the northern states for over a century. Amongst the garlic we grow, it is the earliest variety to poke up through the mulch in early spring. The leaves are noticeably greener in hue than our other hardnecks. It forms very big bulbs with a reddish-purple outer skin. The cloves are plump and easy to peel. This variety is an excellent garlic to grow where soil conditions are slightly damp. Russian Red is one of the fieriest and most flavorful garlics we offer. Each bulb produces approximately 4-6 cloves and there are approximatey 30-36 cloves/ pound.
